Kingdom Come

You keep starting these love affairs you don’t know how to finish.

and none of this is really about the men who couldn't stay--

its more about you

and all your inabilities.

All the flaws you think keep pushing people away.

but at the end of the day,

you keep pushing people away.

You and your higher ground.

You and crown that means nothing.

You and beautiful kingdom,

fortress of all the things that have been done to you;

It lies empty.

You are still so strong,

and still unbroken,

But you are unhappy

because this means you are alone.

Just like your father expected.

You get to stand on all the ground you conquered,

sword bloodied with everyone you cut down,

and you ask yourself--

Is this how you wanted everything to play out?

Brave, beautiful girl

crying empty in her throne room.

Lavish wholeness,

and healed wounds,

but no one to applaud this triumph.

No one left to say--

We knew you would make it.

We knew you would make it.
